The common 5 reel, 3 row format found in many modern slots is how we play Pirates of the Mediterranean. Players can choose a bet here ranging from 0.01 to 100 per spin. Press the Start button, which is on the far right of your player controls, when you are ready to begin your game.

Matching three, four, or five symbols across a payline results in a cash award, though some symbols begin paying out cash sums for just two matching symbols. All other symbols on the reels, excluding the golden parrot Walking Wild and the Treasure Chest Scatter, can be replaced by the colourful parrot symbol, which serves as the game's Wild. Therefore, there is a good chance that it will contribute to the formation of one or more winning combinations each time it appears on the reels.

Walking Wild's symbol is a golden parrot. Every time it appears on the reels, it initiates a free Respin and moves one space to the left after each spin until it vanishes outside the game. The Scatter will still be present and still be able to grant Free Spins if the parrot "walks" over one. The Walking Wild feature must be finished before they can be used, though. Walking Wild is only available in the base game.

Since they don't have to follow the same rules as the other symbols in the game, treasure chest scatter symbols pay out cash prizes when two or more appear anywhere on the reels. However, landing three or more Scatters will activate the game's Free Spins round. When the Pirate Compass shows up on the screen, it may grant 10, 12, 14, 16 or 18 Free Spins. Except for wins involving a parrot Wild, all wins during the bonus round are subject to a 4x Multiplier.
