2025 has been a bumper year for us at Slingo. We’ve welcomed thousands of new players to our site and our mobile app, and lots of them have been enjoying our very own bingo-inspired Slingo games.
In case you haven’t tried it yet, Slingo is a unique combination of online slots and bingo, played on a bingo-style grid. If you manage to match up numbers on a spinning reel with those on the grid, progress through the win ladder, with outcomes determined by chance. There are lots of different Slingo games to choose from – many of them are mash-ups of some of the most popular slot games out there, like Slingo Rainbow Riches and Slingo Starburst.
In this article we’re going to take a look at what makes Slingo so popular with UK bingo players – and with those who are completely new to online gaming. We’ll also explore why the official Slingo site is the best place to play Slingo and bingo games, thanks to its fun community vibe and exclusive member promotions.
What’s the Difference Between Slingo and Traditional Bingo?
Although Slingo is inspired by – and has a very similar name to – bingo, the two games are not the same. Whereas bingo has a caller who calls out the numbers (or if you’re playing online bingo, they will appear on screen), in Slingo games numbers appear on reels at the bottom of the grid.
In both Slingo and bingo the aim is to match up numbers and mark them off on the grid (or bingo card, if you’re playing bingo). Rather than awarding prizes for one line, two lines and full house, like in traditional bingo, in Slingo each completed line is called a Slingo. The more Slingos you complete, the higher you will climb up the win or pay ladder next to the reels.
One of the key differences between bingo and Slingo is that most Slingo games feature Wilds and Super Wilds, which can be used to choose a position to mark off on the reels. This feature is absent from bingo games, but in Slingo it adds to the fun because it enables you to make decisions about which position they would prefer to mark off. Although in the end all outcomes in online games are random and cannot be predicted, the ability to choose positions makes the game more exciting and interactive.
Slingo also stands out for its bonus features and mini games, which do not usually feature in bingo games. After completing a certain number of Slingos, you may trigger a bonus round at the end of your current game. This may award additional prizes, depending on game outcomes, and can be a fun way to mix up the gameplay.
Slingo Special Features
We already touched on this a little in the previous section, but it’s time to take a deeper dive into Slingo’s special features:
Wilds and Super Wilds
Wilds and Super Wilds are special symbols that can randomly appear on the reels on any spin. Depending on the game, the symbols that represent them will be different – for example, in some Slingo games you may see a traditional joker character as the Wild, with a variation on the same character (usually a different background) as the Super Wild. In each game, the symbols will be clearly indicated within the game rules.
If a Wild lands on the reels, you’ll be able to choose any number in the column above it to mark off. If you land a Super Wild, you can mark off any number in the entire grid.
Many players like to consider which position might be the best one to mark off – for example, if you’re only one position short of completing a Slingo, or where you think might be the most strategic place to mark off. However, don’t agonise over it too much – it’s just a game of chance at the end of the day, and that’s the fun of it!
Multipliers
Multipliers do what they say on the tin – they multiply wins to increase your overall prize. In most Slingo games, multipliers are only available during bonus rounds. For example, Slingo Rainbow Riches has seven bonus rounds, each with multiplier prizes up for grabs. If you’re lucky enough to reach the Pots of Gold bonus round, you could be in with a maximum prize of up to 1,000x the stake, subject to game rules.
Free Spins
Lots of Slingo games have Free Spin symbols that can appear randomly on the reels to award an additional spin at the end of the current game, giving you another chance to complete Slingos.
Why Slingo Appeals to a Younger Demographic
Slingo is increasingly popular with the younger generation – we’re talking about the under 35s here, but remember that age is just a number! We think there are a few reasons for its success with the youngsters:
Mobile-First Gaming
The younger generation use their phones for buying things, watching their favourite shows, keeping up with friends and many other aspects of everyday life. So it’s natural that they’re big fans of mobile gaming. All our Slingo games are fully optimised for mobile use, and can be played on smaller screens with no distortion.
Short Gaming Sessions
A typical Slingo game lasts just a few minutes, making it perfect for those looking for a quick game to pass the time. We’re certainly not saying that all younger people have a short attention span – but due to the nature of the short videos they consume on platforms like TikTok, they’re used to short bursts of activity via their mobile phones.
Appealing visuals
Slingo games are very visually appealing, with bright colours, fast animations and fun sound effects too. These fresh-looking games appeal to younger players (as well as older ones) and keep things exciting.
Join Slingo’s Welcoming Community
There are lots of online casinos out there, but Slingo stands out for its social features available across selected games. Although there are no chat features in Slingo games themselves, you can chat with your fellow players in our range of bingo games at Slingo. These games are more similar to traditional online bingo, and the social element is what attracts lots of players to them.
You can also often chat to other players in live games at Slingo, such as live roulette, or live game show-style games like Dream Catcher or Adventures Beyond Wonderland.
We also run regular slots tournaments, where you can compete with your fellow players as you try to work your way up the leaderboard for a chance to win exclusive prizes.
