As rumours continue to circulate over who will take on the role next, Slingo has looked at which of the tunes is the most takes the number one spot.
Measuring popularity generated by the number of Spotify streams, YouTube views, peak chart positions, and weeks in the top 100, it’s Adele’s Skyfall ballad taking the top spot.
Released in 2012 for the 23rd James Bond movie, Skyfall, the song became the first Bond tune to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song and top the charts at #2 on the UK Singles Chart
In second place is Sam Smith’s Writing’s OnThe Wall, reportedly written in under half an hour and released for Daniel Craig’s penultimate James Bond, Spectre, in 2015.
The theme tune for Craig’s fifth and final Bond, No Time To Die, by Billie Eillsh takes third spot. At 18, she was the youngest artist to record a Bond theme. The song, co-written with her brother Finneas O'Connell, also features orchestration by Hans Zimmer and went on to win the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media in 2021.
